Directorate’s Management Structure

The Directorate activities are currently run through the assistance of 14 Board members comprising of Representatives from all Faculties and Schools, the Director Postgraduate Studies, the University Librarian, two (2) Senate representatives and a secretary (senior administrative assistant).

The membership of the Directorate

  • Director of Research & Extension – Chairperson 
  • Assistant Registrar – Secretary 
  • Director of Graduate Studies 
  • One representative from each Faculty, Institute, School and Centre 
  • University Industry Liaison Officer 
  • University Press Manager (University Librarian)
  • Two Senate representatives nominated by the Senate from among Senators

 

The objectives of the Faculty are:

  • To foster an enabling environment for development and production of quality research proposals and outputs.
  • To regulate internal research funding and provide equal opportunities and full participation of staff and students in research activities.
  • To increase the number of developed and sustained research publications by university’s staff and students.
  • To promote participatory and collaborative research with local and international partner institutions.
  • To empower the University community to compete for external research funding, given the limited resources from internal sources.
  • To ensure that procedures of research conform to ethical stipulations.

Internal Research Funds Conditions

      1. Should be member of staff or a Post Graduate student
      2. Should apply for financial grant within the required timelines
      3. Should meet the prescribed requirements as per the research policy

Duties and Functions

    1. To propose research priorities for the University
    2. To receive and approve all research proposals, co-ordinate, monitor and evaluate collaborative research projects
    3. To receive and review reports from recipients of grants on the use of research funds from all sources
    4. To identify and recommend to the University the establishment of research and extension facilities
    5. To propose extension priorities for the University
    6. To receive and approve extension proposals, including outreach activities
    7. To promote activities within Faculties and Departments on matters pertaining to institutional linkages and extension programmes
    8. To promote closer linkage of research, training and extension through staff and student involvement in outreach programmes including public sector interaction
    9. To administer the intellectual property rights Statute of the University 
    10. To cause to be published University publicity newsletters, scholarly journals and other educational materials
    11. To receive and consider manuscripts from the University for publication
    12. To assist staff to produce educational, training and instructional materials.
