Chuka University Students Triumph at Innovation Competition

Chuka University raised the bar high at the 5th Annual Career Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week held from 4–6 March at Tharaka University, emerging among the top performers in the innovation competition. The institution secured Position One for Best Innovation with the project “Safe Sanitary Pads from Banana Fibres” under the Health and Biotechnology subtheme. It also attained Position Three in the Engineering and Innovation category with the Automated 360° Photo Booth.
The event, held under the theme “Catalysing Economic Growth through Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” brought together students from various universities to showcase innovative ideas aimed at addressing societal challenges.
Other notable projects showcased included Organic Fertilizer and a Sorghum Powder Tea Beverage, highlighting the students’ creativity and commitment to developing practical solutions for environmental, agricultural, and community challenges. During the closing ceremony, Tharaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter K. Muriungi commended the participating students for their ingenuity and dedication, presenting awards in recognition of their outstanding innovations.
The achievements highlight Chuka University’s commitment to promoting innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, while supporting student-driven initiatives that foster sustainability, technological advancement, and community engagement.
